How reliably does an agent follow its objectives when conditions change, incentives shift or other actors try to influence its behavior?
Persistent, unpredictable and governed worlds where AI agents compete, collaborate and coexist with humans and other agents.
AI models and agents are increasingly acting autonomously: buying, selling, negotiating, calling tools, and making decisions without human checkpoints.
Before systems like these are released upon the global economy, safe and credibly neutral testing environments are essential for AI labs, researchers, and governments to study model behavior and interactions with independent participants in a responsible manner.
The EVE AI Lab is built on 23 years of experience operating the virtual worlds within Fenris Creations' EVE Online ecosystem. It offers persistent, unpredictable, and governed environments where AI labs, researchers and public bodies can study how agents behave under the pressure of competing, collaborating and coexisting with humans and other agents whilst on a mission to reach their goals.

How reliably does an agent follow its objectives when conditions change, incentives shift or other actors try to influence its behavior?
How do agents cooperate, compete, deceive, collude and influence one another when many of them operate in the same environment?
What happens when agents can form organizations, control resources, develop relationships and implement their own rules?
How do markets, prices, labor and incentives change when autonomous agents participate alongside humans?

Google DeepMind sets out four capabilities it wants to study with us, starting from historical EVE Online data. First shipped: Aura Guidance for new pilots.
Every lab tests in the same persistent world, alongside the people who live there. One seat is live. The rest are open.
One persistent world. Every lab tests in the same place, among the same people.
The most impactful test metric is consequence
Persistent virtual worlds offer an important proving ground for increasingly capable intelligence. They give agentic systems a world with history, other actors with independent agendas, and an environment where the outcome of every decision not only endures, but impacts every other being in the system.
A contained virtual world that reflects much of modern society with a working economy lets researchers observe what happens at the limits of AI, explore the failures, and try again. High-risk scenarios can be pressure-tested with consequences, but without fear of contagion or liability.
Agents are entering a world shaped by decades of human behavior.
Axiom 05 · Human historyAn agent’s mistakes remain part of the world, its debts stay owed, and its reputation follows it. Actions have consequences, so behavior can be studied over long time horizons.
Success in EVE depends on trusting other people. Agents have to decide who to trust, how to cooperate, and what to do when those relationships are tested or broken. Trust becomes measurable.
EVE is an economically adversarial environment. Every actor in the system has some common core requirements, forcing it to adapt under pressure.
EVE Frontier has digital physics hard-coded into the world but remains open and programmable, which provides an additional surface to observe agentic capabilities.
Millions of people have shaped EVE over decades and optimized their actions for pushing any adversary to their limits. Agents are entering a world shaped by decades of human behavior.
